Institute of Chartered Secretaries of Bangladesh. It offers professional degree of Chartered Secretary for development of the nation. It is a statutory body under Ministry of Commerce, Government of the People's Republic of Bangladesh.

CS is a professional degree in the field of secretarial and governance practice. You will understand the difference between academic and professional degrees while you are in ICSB. Those who complete CS, receive ACS membership initially and with time and following requirements, they become FCS. In Bangladesh, CS qualification is offered by Institute of Chartered Secretaries of Bangladesh (ICSB). 

Not exactly same. ICAB and ICMAB are the accounting professional bodies, whereas ICSB is the only recognized professional body to develop, promote and regulate the profession of Chartered/Company Secretaries in Bangladesh. In broader aspect to enhance Corporate Governance, ICSB provides degree in Chartered Secretaryship.

ICSB regulates and develop the profession of Chartered Secretaries in order to promote and establish statutory disciplines and conduct the Company matter and management effectively in line with Corporate Governance and Code of Conduct. It regularly arranges Continuing Development Program (CPD) to enhance the efficiency of the secretarial profession.

Chartered Secretarial Course is of international standard based on Chartered Secretaries Institute worldwide specially UK, Canada, Australia, Hong Kong and Indian Syllabus. There are two parts of CS study i.e. Certificate Level and Professional Level. Most of the courses are related to secretariatship, laws, regulations, accounting, taxation, auditing and governance studies etc.

Twice in a year, for January-June session in December and for July-December session in June.

Total 5 (five) Semesters (i.e. six months for each Semester).

Total 2 (two) and Half years.

Semester wise, by bank deposit (i.e. cash or online).

18 (eighteen) subjects for total 5 (five) semesters.

There are 10 (ten) courses in Certificate Levels (i.e. 3 courses in Certificate Level-I, 3 courses in Certificate Level-II and 4 courses in Certificate Level-III). To pass certificate level, students need to complete all those subjects. Students can take and pass subject wise according to their capacity.

75% attendance is mandatory to appear in the exam for the 1st time in a particular subject.

Twice in a year, in January & July.

The passing system in Subject wise.

Evening shift from 6.30 PM - 9.30 PM (any 4 days in a week), 

Day shift: Friday & Saturday from 8.00 AM - 5.00 PM.

Experienced persons who are directly involved in Company Secretarial matter and University teachers, Lawyers, and expert professional etc.

Business Graduate with 6 (six) points or other recognized professional degree (i.e. CA, CMA, CPA, CFA, ACCA and CIMA etc.) holder may admit directly to the Certificate Level-I.

Graduates from other discipline with 6 (six) points and Business Graduate less than 6 (six) points are admitted to the Foundation Level.

Yes, students of ‘A’ level passed (2 subject ‘B’ Grade and 1 subject ‘A’ Grade) or HSC passed with GPA-5 are admitted to the Foundation Level.

No, there is no age limit for admission to CS study.

Yes, anyone having a full time or part time job can pursue CS. 

Chartered Secretary (CS) is Professional Degree whereas graduation is academic degree. CS relates to both theory and practicality. On the other hand, graduated students get only theoretical knowledge from their respective subject.

Yes, qualified CSs will not only eligible for jobs like graduates but also horizons and choose career with endless opportunities such as MD, CEO, COO, CGO, Company Secretary, Head of Regulatory Affairs, Head of Share, Head of Internal Audit, Head of Compliance, Head of Taxation, Head of Monitoring and Head of Operation, etc.

Yes, there are various financial assistance for the student of ICSB. Financial Assistances are offered by ICSB based upon various criteria, such as financial need, academic merit and diversity among others etc.

Yes, Students from the all public universities and reputed private & foreign universities will be granted subjects exemption subject to fulfilling certain conditions. In addition to those, qualified Member of The Chartered Governance Institute of UK & Ireland, The Governance Institute of Australia, ICAB, ICMAB, ICGAB, The Hong Kong Chartered Governance Institute, ACCA, CPA (USA), CPA (Canada) or any other equivalent foreign Professional body may be granted exemption on different subjects / level(s) subject to fulfilling certain conditions and recommendation of Education Committee and subsequently approved by the ICSB Council.

Prospect is very bright. A modern corporate enterprise/ limited company needs the services of qualified Chartered Secretaries with multidisciplinary background in Law, Management and Accounting, backed by skilled training and Continuing Professional Development (CPD) education to ensure that all legal compliances are promptly and efficiently met.

The Institute tries to provide required help in getting placement in job to all his/her qualified students, but it is not obligatory. Generally, all the qualified secretaries are employed in various organizations in good position, because of this Professional Degree.

Yes, ICSB being a Corporate Governance professional institute organizes Training and Workshops on different topics for Students as well as for the prospective to develop equipped hands for a sound compliance environment.

A candidate who is registered as a student with Institute of Chartered Secretaries of Bangladesh (ICSB) is eligible to enroll for “CS Articleship” practical training program with a Practicing Chartered Secretary (CS) Firm. This eligibility is contingent upon receiving approval from the Institute.

 

However, the “CS Articleship” practical training program is optional for the students who have accumulated full time job experience in any Chartered Secretary Firm or Listed company or Organization pertinent to Company Secretarial functions or in areas recognized by ICSB subject to the submission of a work experience certificate to the Institute. 

Articleship period is Minimum 24 (twenty-four) months to Maximum 36 (thirty-six) months in order to be eligible for “Articleship Completion Certificate” from the Institute.
